Essential Oils Philippines – incorporating the use of essential oils in our day-to-day life is easy and can make a difference after a tiring day. There are many ways or methods of using it. We have drafted some guidelines that involves the safety of using essential oils including recommended dosage.

Please note, not all essential oils are the same or created equal, we need to take caution when using them.

There will be three common ways or methods to use it.

Aromatically

Inhalation – You may have to use scent strips for this and add 1 drop into it. Or you may put 1 drop on a tissue or cotton ball and fan it on to your nose.

Oil Burner Diffusion – use a ceramic pot diffuser with a tea light candle to warm the oils, add around 5 drops of pure essential oil of your choice in a 15 ml of distilled water.

Ultrasonic or Electric Diffusers – this is a common device or tool that can be purchased online along with essential oils. Follow label instructions in using it. Add around 5 to 15 drops of your favorite pure essential oils. You may try this ratio on a blend of three essential oils, 5 drops each oil.

Steam Inhalation – In a bowl of hot water (250 ml), add 1 drop of pure essential oil. Close your eyes and cover with a towel. Put you face near the bowl and try to breathe and smell the steam. If you feel any irritation, STOP it immediately.

Spray Bottles- use only glass or metal bottles. NEVER plastic bottles. For a 250 ml bottle, fill it with water, add a total of 30 to 50 drops of pure essential oil. You may use up to three different oils. Just adjust the ratio that you wont exceed to 50 drops if possible. Shake it and spray it on your room or pillows or linens or garments. Some recipe of essential oils will be used as insect repellent like peppermint or citronella.

Topically

Massage oil – you can make your own massage oil at home. Make sure to dilute pure essential oil in a carrier oil. Suggested carrier oils are fractionated coconut oil, jojoba oil, castor oil, olive oil, avocado oil or any fatty vegetable or seed oils.

Definitely, do a skin patch test of the oils (both pure essential and carrier) for about 24 hours to check any skin allergic reactions and irritations. Note, some are allergic to ingredients containing nuts.

In a 15 ml carrier oil, dilute up to 3 drops of pure essential oil for a 1% dilution. You may use more than one essential oils provided you limit your dosage based on the ratio given. Apply it on the skin or massage the area you want to soothe in. In case of lavender, to heal skin irritation, apply it on the affected part.

Skin cleanser or face oil. Beware using essential oils rich in vitamin C in the morning due to photosensitivity issue. Exposure to the sun while having the oil on your skin could potentially damage it. Use it safely at NIGHT only.  Or don’t get expose to the sun within 16 hours of application.

Bath or Foot Soak-  Add up to 3  drops of pure essential oil to your shampoo bottle. Blend different oils up to 4 drops for some body scrub foam. For foot soak, add 1 to 2 drops.

 Internally

*CAUTION: Not all pure essential oils can be taken internally! Only a few ones can be ingested so always be careful and seek a certified Essential Oil Specialist if you are unsure. And one important thing to remember, DOSAGE.

Toxicity- taking in more than the accepted dosage of pure essential oil within 24 hours is already toxic to the body. As the saying goes, “too much of something is bad enough”.

Mix with water or any beverage – some pure essential oils can be taken internally this way. Again only use glass or metal and NEVER plastic cups.

At the back of the tongue- This will make the absorption of the pure essential oil faster because of the nerve endings directly leading to the bloodstream.

Food Dish- pure essential oil can be added to your dish or baked goodies if you want to enhance the flavor or aroma. Example, basil or oregano on your pizza sauce.

Again for the right dosage, consult an Essential Oil Specialist.
